She is the child of Harvey Welker, a Native American Father as well as Julie Welker, an African American mother. Her mother is a real estate agent and her father works as an engineer. Walker received her schooling at Germantown Friends School located in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood, graduating in 1994.
