Arianna Huffington

Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington has been a Greek American columnist, author and businesswoman for more than 20 years. She is a founder of The Huffington Post and the chief executive officer of Thrive Global. Author of more than 15 books. Arianna Huffington is an author and television host, as well as philanthropist as well as the owner and publisher of The Huffington Post. Originating from Greece she relocated to England at the age of 16 and was able to graduate from Cambridge University with an MA in Economics. At 21 she became president of the renowned debating society The Cambridge Union' and was the first foreign born student to do so. She became a conservative syndicated writer after graduation and, with The Huffington Post launched a year later, she developed an online voice platform which offered critiques of politics. It was her celebrity that helped to attract several famous contributors who shared their thoughts on news as well as politics and culture. Arianna rose to fame in 2003 after she decided to run as an independent candidate during the California recall election to replace then Governor Davis. In addition to this, she led the Detroit Project for efficient vehicles that use less fuel. In 2009, she was ranked by Forbes as The most influential women in media gaining 12th position in the list and in the same year the Guardian named her to the top 100 of media lists. AOL Inc. bought The Huffington Post, and she became president of the media company. This included many AOL properties at the time such as Engadget AOL style list and Patch Media. She was the daughter of journalist and management consultant Konstantinos and his wife Elli Stasinopoulos. She was extremely close to her father. But it was her relationship with her mother who has shaped her. As a child she displayed leadership qualities which she is still renowned for. As a 16-year-old the girl moved into her home in United Kingdom for her higher education. She attended Girton College Cambridge. In the time of her studies she was a member of Cambridge Union. Cambridge Union debating group where she became the first woman president, and also the sole foreign president. In 1972 she received an education in Economics. She worked as a critic, a TV host and columnist upon her graduation.
