He is currently an Combate Americas promotee. 2 Ortiz is best known for his stints with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in which he was a former Light Heavyweight Champion, having been the champion since April 14th, 2000 to September 26 2003. He was a pioneer of the sport together with Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture. Ortiz ended up becoming the biggest pay-per-view draw of 2006 for his bouts with Liddell, Forrest Griffin, and Ken Shamrock.Ortiz is the chief executive officer of Punishment Athletics' MMA equipment and clothing line, which is based in his home town of Huntington Beach, California.
